THE MANAGEMENT TEAM

Executive Director
Paul Taylor
Paul joined Second Base in 2007, bringing with him a wealth of experience in teaching and instructor training.
Since his arrival, Paul has been responsible for launching the Shelter's in-house alternative education program, Second Wave.  The cornerstone of that program is the GED (General Education Development) Preparation Program.  Participants in the program receive one-on-one tutoring, special education counselling as well as fully subsidized GED Preparation classes.  In addition to his work with instructors, students, volunteers and his peers, Paul has been instrumental in helping to secure private donors to the program.  Under his guidance the GED Preparation Program has become a model for agencies involved with high risk youth.  Our educational programs have been profiled by the United Way and Rogers TV
In 2008, Paul spearheaded the new youth-led catering initiative, Second Helping.  This social enterprise program is an innovative approach to practical training, work experience and revenue generation.  Youth are involved in all aspects of the business - menu planning, food preparation, serving and clean-up.  The team has catered events for our local MP and MPPs, large special events, corporate parties and private functions. Recently, Paul turned his considerable talents to our day drop in program.  he has been planning and implementing new, relevant workshops (life skills, resume planning, sexual health, etc.) during the day.  He has also added a few lighter elements like a hair stylist who comes in once a week to do hair free of charge.
